Getting the Books

All the books on our Reading List are available from the Fairfax County Library. The easiest thing to do is go to the Library Catalog to find and reserve a copy of the book. You will then get an email telling you when your book is available for pick-up.

We try to choose books with good availability in the system. But there are times when we choose books for which there are waiting lists, so it is always a good idea to reserve early -- that way you will have your book in plenty of time to read it before the discussion. When we pick a book with a queue, we schedule it for months off to give our reservations time to move through the queue. Depending on how long the lead time is, you may want to use the "suspend" feature where you can move through the queue but "suspend" your checkout time to get the book closer to when you'll be reading it.

Another option for books with a long queue is to purchase them through the Library Foundation's "FIRST LOAN" program ~ check it out: BE A "FIRST LOAN" READER!

When you check-out your book, be sure to tell the librarian that you are checking-out the book for the book group. That way they will make your "due date" the day of the meeting. This is important if you get your book far in advance -- which may be the case, if the book becomes available quickly.

If you have any questions/problems with getting books, feel free to ask for help from the library staff ~ they are always happy to help!
